Fair Trade
Did you know that Coffee is second only to crude oil as the world's most highly traded commodity? It is when you think of the physical amount of coffee currently being consumed, mostly by first world countries, that you realise the dependence many poorer economies have on Coffee production.

As the caption below shows the price received by farmers relative to the cost of living has actually decreased over the past 30 years meaning that while some countries get richer, the farmers that supply the coffee have become relatively poorer.

Brambles going Fair Trade
Brambles Deli Cafe Ltd has recently undertaken a policy of going green, and to partner our policy of Green Waste Management and Organic Produce we have also begun steps to aid farmers in the developing world by supplying FAIR TRADE Coffee & Tea to our customers.

Currently our Fair Trade Tea’s & Coffee’s are sourced from Nicaragua in Central America where coffee production accounts for 30% of all agricultural output from approximately 3,000 family run farms.

Our Aim is to eventually phase out the use of Coffee, Tea, Juices and Chocolates supplied by farms where the poorest farmers being exploited.

At present Brambles provide approximately 700,000 cups of Tea, Coffee or Hot Chocolate every year, we want to increase the amount of fair trade products we stock and by the end of 2006 we foresee supplying fair trade Coffee’s, Tea’s & Hot Chocolate as standard in all our branches and catering events.

As a company we are committed to pure produce and the decision to supply Fair Trade products as standard is another stage in the green corporate policy of Brambles, and of course by knowing that your coffee or tea is fair trade it should taste all the sweeter!
